Department of Basic Midwifery

Welcome to the Department of Basic Midwifery at Soarstar College of Nursing Sciences.

This is a three-year(3-year), six-semester Basic Midwifery Nursing program approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). At the end of this 3-year program, our student will be awarded Diploma qualification in Midwifery (Registered Midwife) by The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. Furthermore, upon graduation students will be licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to practice and work as Midwives in Nigeria

Our department is dedicated to training compassionate and skilled midwives who play a vital role in ensuring safe and positive childbirth experiences for women and their families. Through rigorous academic coursework, hands-on clinical experiences, and supportive faculty guidance, we prepare students to become competent and confident midwifery professionals.

Anatomy and Physiology of Reproduction
Antenatal Care
Intrapartum Care

Neonatal Care
Complications of Pregnancy and Childbirth

Hands-on Learning

Hands-on learning is an integral part of our midwifery program, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-life clinical scenarios. Through clinical rotations in hospitals, birthing centres, and community settings, students have the opportunity to work under the supervision of experienced midwives and healthcare professionals, gaining practical experience in providing prenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to women and their families.

Simulation Training

Our simulation lab provides a safe and controlled environment for students to practice essential midwifery skills and procedures. Simulated childbirth scenarios allow students to develop confidence and proficiency in managing normal and high-risk deliveries, as well as responding to obstetric emergencies.

Our faculty members are experienced midwives and educators who are passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of midwifery professionals.
